A Message from Fr. Bart

His reassignment, and announcing our incoming pastor

My Brothers and Sisters of Holy Cross,

About a week or so ago I received a surprise call from Fr. James McCurry, my Minister Provincial, with a request that I assume the position of the Guardian Superior of Immaculate Heart of Mary Friary in Baltimore, Maryland. After some prayer, reflection and some (lost) nights’ sleep, I have accepted his request.

I had not requested a change and had planned to stay as your pastor for another two years. I feel that the Lord is calling me to this position. The interesting thing is that my first assignment after ordination, 45 years ago, was to Archbishop Curley High School, and I was living in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Friary. In a sense I have come full circle!

The sad part in leaving is that I will miss you, the people of Holy Cross Church, with your warm and welcoming spirit and our liturgy with its “Gospel” Music! I guess this is the cross I bear in accepting this new assignment.

I will be leaving after June 1, when I officially become the guardian superior. Of course, a lot depends on the state of our recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. My departure may be later.

I have been replaced by Fr. Daniel Pal OFM Conv. Below is some information about him. I hope that you welcome him in the same way that you welcomed and “trained” me so wonderfully as your pastor. I will miss all of you!

Peace and all good to you,
Fr. Bart
