Charley Rowe Leading Health and Wellness at Holy Cross

Charley Rowe joins Holy Cross, joins parish ministry

Charley RoweHoly Cross Catholic Church recently welcomed new parishioner Charley Rowe (photo at right).

Soon after joining the parish, she responded to a message in the Holy Cross Bulletin seeking a volunteer coordinator for the parish’s Health and Wellness ministry. Charley brings to her new role experience in medical settings and years of personal interest in health and wellness.

Her first step was to conduct a Health and Wellness interest survey (Feb 22 - Mar 21, 2020) to identify the parish’s interests and needs. She received 55 responses to the survey, with geriatric, cardiovascular, and nutrition and dietary concerns topping the list of health and wellness issues identified by parishioners as topics to be addressed.

Initial Health and Wellness Ministry plans include topic-based workshops, cooking demonstrations, and a Healthy Heart event, Charlie said.

She received her bachelor of arts degree in foreign language education and her master’s and doctoral degrees in linguistics (Germanic) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her education led to appointments in Winston-Salem teaching high school, then to linguistic work in England, Hong Kong, and Cyprus.

She said she has enjoyed relocating, “connecting with wonderful people around the world.” Through her new ministry here, she brings that same interest to Holy Cross.
