First Communion this Sunday - and time to register for Vacation Bible School

VBS will be June 13-18 at Holy Cross, open to the community

It's a busy weekend at Holy Cross.

  • Our Young Adult group is meeting for a day-long retreat on Saturday.
  • On Sunday, our young children will be celebrating their First Communion; they had their retreat last weekend.
  • We have our First Weekend reception after weekend Masses
  • Our teens will be helping to prepare a new section in our Parish Community Garden after Mass (they can get a snack at the reception first)

Vacation Bible School: Registration is now open

It's time to start registering children ages 3-10 for Vacation Bible School, to be held June 13-16 at Holy Cross.

The theme this year is "EGYPT: Joseph's journey from prison to palace." VBS leaders will be helping children learn this story of struggle, faith and family, and a growing awareness of God in our lives, through games, story-telling, songs, and more.

VBS at Holy Cross is open to all youth in the area who are interested in learning about God, people of faith, and having some good, energetic fun.Invite friends, cousins, neighbors to come along. Registration forms will be in the gathering space starting this weekend (and available for download here soon). The cost is $20 for the first child in the household; $5 for the second and third child. Limited financial assistance is available; we don't want a child to miss this opportunity. For details, visit with Jeaneatta Hopkins, director of faith formation at Holy Cross.

Outreach Reminder

Don't forget to bring canned and packaged food items to help fill the Catholic Charities bins in the Multipurpose Rooms. The packaged food items that are needed are listed on our Social Action and Evagelism page (see the list of suggested items by household).

As this is first is the weekend of the month, our teens are invited to help with the parish's community garden. Much is already growing, thanks to favorable weather early this year that allowed a group of volunteers to get cool-season plants in the ground. We should be able to harvest some of those to add to the to Catholic Charities donation bins. We also will be preparing a new section of the garden for planting next weekend and the Young Adult Group will begin planning for a berry patch as part of their Saturday retreat.

The garden is part of our Social Action and Evangelism ministry. All are welcome to participate; invite a neighbor to join in the fun. Anyone interested in helping is asked to bring a shovel and some comfortable work clothes.
