Holy Cross Catholic Church Reopening Plan: “Move Outdoor Daily Mass Indoors”

Guidelines to Operate During The COVID-19 Pandemic

It is our goal to safely return our church life to a worshiping schedule as close to normal as allowable in this COVID -19 Pandemic environment. We are proceeding very cautiously to resume in-person daily Mass, with a maximum starting capacity of 25 (subject to change) people. There is no obligation to attend in-person Mass. Any individuals with high risk underlying health conditions and compromised immune systems are strongly encouraged to continue to enjoy the Sunday live stream Mass from home.

Here are the guidelines installed to protect parishioners:

  • To attend the Mass, parishioners should plan to arrive at the church by 7:45 AM to check in at the church Gathering Space in the Narthex.
  • The doors will be held open until 8:05 AM to minimize the need to touch the surfaces.
  • Everyone must wear a face covering. Congregants will not be admitted without a mask.
  • Apply hand sanitizer upon entrance to church. Entry will be denied if hand sanitizer is refused.
  • Greeters/Ushers use a sign-in attendance list for congregants to gain entry to Mass. Parishioners will use the sign-in sheet to answer COVID-19 questions and record their temperature.
  • The Greeter will check temperatures and inquire if the parishioner is experiencing an illness or symptoms of COVID-19, entry will be denied to anyone with a temperature of 100.4°F or higher.  Return home; seek healthcare.
  • Bathrooms will be closed, so plan accordingly. There will be no water fountains in operation and the Holy Water fountain will not be in use.
  • Parishioners must sit in one of the four pews (an empty pew is kept between each one) reserved on both sides of the Sanctuary at the front of the church.
  • All worship aids, prayer books, and hymnals have been removed from the pews.
  • Communion will be offered in only one species, in hand only.  Refer to the markings on the floor for 6 feet physical distancing. Communion will begin with the left side (facing the alter) of the church. Once the left side has completed, then the right side of church will begin.
  • Once the host is placed in your hand, take two steps to the side (to maintain six feet of separation) and lower your face mask to allow you to place the host in your mouth, then immediately replace your face mask before returning to your seat.
  • After the final blessing, the priest will instruct you to exit to the parking lot through the side exit door at the front of the church and return to your vehicle.
  • Parishioners on the right side of church will exit with social distance to the parking lot. Then, parishioners on the left side of church will exit with social distance to the parking lot.
  • Please do not congregate in the church after service is over. Attend service only if you are healthy and feel comfortable complying with these guidelines.
