Holy Cross Food Donation Collection Resumes This Tuesday
Durham Community Food Pantry

The current economic situation has stretched thin the supply of surplus food available for organizations like the Durham Community Food Pantry (DCFP), negatively affecting their ability to meet the needs of their clients.

While the weekly delivery of fresh vegetables from the Holy Cross garden is much appreciated by the DCFP team – 137 pounds donated so far in this growing season – additional food donations are needed to help the Food Pantry's clients maintain a healthy diet.

Please consider the following ways you can help the Food Pantry help those in need.

Tuesday Morning Vegetables, 9AM - 11 AM | If you have excess produce from your home garden, you are welcome to bring that to Holy Cross on Tuesday mornings, between 9 AM and 11 AM. Your donation will be delivered along with the weekly harvest from the parish's sharing garden. A few requests:

  • Please rinse your vegetables and pat dry
  • Place in plastic bags (you can reuse plastic grocery bags)
  • Bring to the garden team on Tuesdays, between 9 AM and 11 AM

You'll find members of the garden team either in the sharing garden (located in the backyard of the church) or in the church kitchen. Enter the kitchen through the back door Tuesday mornings, 9 AM - 11 AM.

Tuesday-Friday Packaged Food Drop, 9 AM - 2:30 PM | When shopping for your household groceries, consider buying a few extra cans of beans, peas, tomatoes or meat (i.e., chicken or tuna), boxed meal starters or pasta. Try to find low-salt/low-sugar products.

Deposit your donations of packaged, nonperishable foods (nothing requiring refrigeration) in the plastic donation bin that will be located near the benches at the front door to the church. Your donations will be stored at church and delivered with the fresh produce on Tuesday mornings. If donating both fresh produce and packaged food, bring both on Tuesday morning. Thank you for your generosity!
