Parish Activities - Easter Bunny Visit, Potato Planting, Youth Activities, more

Vacation Bible School schedule set, volunteers welcome

Saturday, March 26 | 10 AM – Barbara Graham Easter Egg Hunt for children of the parish and the area community. Bring your smile and a basket to meet the Easter Bunny, find eggs and have lunch. Sign up in the Gathering Space this weekend.

Sunday, March 20 | CROP WALK. A number of parishioners were going to participate in this weekend’s Durham CROP Walk. However, with the majority of the walkers 'catching colds' - coupled with the damp, cold weather - the parish's team dissipated this year. Contributions can still be made to the parish team to help support the 2016 CROP walk. Donations can be made online at Just type in the name of the individual you would like to support or Holy Cross, if you’d rather support the team. Donations given to 'walkers' will be submitted to the CROP Walk office. While on line you can check out the value this annual CROP walk brings to those in need in the community of Durham and globally, and put a note in your calendar to participate in the 2017 Durham CROP Walk for Hunger.

Friday, March 24 | Plant some potatoes. Plan to stay a half hour or so after Good Friday services and help plant two beds of potatoes. It won’t take long. Youth are asked to help plant seedlings in starter trays, too. The clients at Catholic Charities will appreciate your efforts.

Jade Franco, a Holy Cross parishioner and a ninth-grader at the City of Medicine Academy, aspires to a medical career as an obstetrics-gynecology doctor. She is also a dancer and currently is raising funds to participate in the Dance Quest competition being held on May 1 at the Durham Performing Arts Center. Jade will perform a lyrical piece that offers a tribute to women of breast cancer, an issue affecting millions of women, young and old. Funds will help offset her fees for the competition and costumes. Donations of any amount can be made payable to WallTown Children’s Theater. Most important, she also is asking for prayers of support from her Holy Cross community.

Saturday, April 30 | Day of Reflection for Holy Cross Young Adults ... details to come. In the meantime, pray for our young adults and those planning this special day for them.

Caribbean Mass | June 5, with a visiting priest from Atlanta. The Caribbean Group's 50/50 Raffle tickets will be available in the Gathering Space intermittently until to raise funds to support this annual event. – read more about this …

  • Faith formation continues on Sunday mornings prior to Mass. Parents are reminded that the Catholicism video series is ongoing for their own faith formation while their children are in class. • First Communion will be celebrated at Holy Cross on May 10 during the 10 AM Mass. Pray for the children preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.
  • Middle and High School students will be participating in a ‘lock-in’ event in the near future. Details coming soon.
