Catholics Come Home

Catholics Come Home

Have you been away from the Church, and are considering returning?
We welcome you back and are here to help.

To get started, visit the Being Catholic Today page on our website for information about living a committed Christian life. When you are ready to dig deeper, send an email  message to Deacon Phil (deacon@holycrossdurham.org) to arrange a time to discuss your interest in returning to the Catholic Church and any questions you may have.

Returning Catholics

There are about 51 million Catholic adults in the U.S., accounting for about one-fifth of the U.S. adult population, according to a 2014 Pew Research Center study. The Church is a vibrant, active community of believers that continues to have a positive influence on the lives of many people. However, there are people who for various reasons have stopped actively participating in the Church and attending Mass. While we live in a busy culture and society, and many demands are placed on us, people continue to search for deeper meaning, for a closer relationship with God, and for a more authentic spiritual identity.

As a faith family, we miss those Catholics who have left the Church or who have stopped participating in its vibrant liturgy and sacramental life. Perhaps you or someone you know are in this situation and do not know how to come back or how to become active again. The first thing you need to know is that you are always welcome back. The Church misses you and hopes that you will choose to come home as an active member.

Holy Cross welcomes you back and provides opportunities for discussions and faith sharing with members of the parish who are ready to walk the journey home with you in a welcoming and non-judgmental way. These sessions provide you the opportunity to receive answers to questions about Church teachings and to gain an overview of the Catholic faith. Our focus is on helping you to find peace, answers, and true happiness through the gift of faith. To get started, send an email message to Deacon Phil Rzewnicki, OFS.
